Nearly 200 shareholders attended a Medicare information session sponsored by the Golden Age Foundation on April 29 in Clubhouse 2. Council on Aging Orange County (COAOC) representatives provided current information about Medicare to a responsive audience. Through it’s Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP), the Council helps seniors understand the often complex world of Medicare.
The program highlighted the new Benefits Enrollment Center in Clubhouse 5 where shareholders can learn about their eligibility for several benefits. Benefits Enrollment Centers assist low-income Medicare eligible seniors and persons with disabilities find, and apply for benefit programs. The Leisure World Benefits Enrollment Center is supported by the Golden Age Foundation. Refreshments for the meeting were also provided by Golden Age and served by Hospitality volunteers.
Linda Walton, HICAP Program Manager, gave a number of examples of Leisure World residents who have been helped by this program. A lively question and answer program followed the presentation. COAOC Counselors met at separate tables after the meeting to provide further information.
