43rd Annual Dinner Gala a Huge Success!

Nearly 300 shareholders and guests attended a spectacular dinner gala event on Saturday, October 15 in Clubhouse 2. The evening’s theme was “Broadway Showcase” and attendees wore their best to this classy event. Doors opened early at 4:30 P.M. to allow guests to have their complimentary photos taken and to have time to visit our membership table, an AmazonSmile table, and the Council on Aging information table.

One of the highlights of this year’s event was a Silent Auction that featured many unique items, such as gift certificates to popular local restaurants, personal services such as massage and computer services, room painting, wine baskets, and admission tickets to the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood.

While browsing, guests enjoyed visiting a special wine bar, staffed by Michael and Gail Levitt.

Table decorations featured a lovely gold and black theme. A wonderful meal, featuring a delicious Chicken Marsala entree was prepared and served by Country Gardens Caterers. President Maureen Habel welcomed guests and explained new directions for Golden Age, with the goals of promoting membership and increasing financial support to ensure a vibrant future for the Foundation. The purpose of the Annual Dinner Gala is to honor donors – those individuals and groups whose generosity are the sole support of the Foundation. Major contributors were listed on the evening’s program and again recognized for the vital role they play in the Foundation’s many programs and services in our community.

Vice-President Anna Derby furnished information about the number of shareholder services provided in the past year, including data from the Hospitality Center, the Tax Return Program, the Mobility Aids Program, and the role of Golden Age volunteers in supporting the annual flu clinic. Special recognition was given to the Council on Aging Orange County HICAP Program, a new partner with Golden Age.

Anna also let attendees know about many exciting developments in 2015-2016, including obtaining a $2,000 grant from the Boeing Employees Community Fund, the launch of the Give Where You Live Program, our new membership structure, and a new image for the Foundation. She also described the addition of a regular newsletter and e-mail blasts now sent to members who provide their e-mail addresses, and the continuing development of this website.

Entertainer Tom Horvath was a big hit with the audience as he sang songs from of Broadway’s most popular musicals.

Following these presentations, Anna introduced Tom Horvath, a 24 year-old singer who regaled the audience with Broadway show hits from musicals such as The Music Man, South Pacific, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Man of La Mancha. Tom was a great hit with the audience and received standing ovations for his energetic and entertaining performance.

Lynn Baidack, who worked tirelessly on the Silent Auction, listed the auction item  winners and Ren Villanueva conducted the 50/50 raffle to end this most enjoyable and elegant evening.
