Your volunteer role depends on your interests, your skills, and your availability.

Volunteering at the Hospitality Center.

Function of the Hospitality Center is on hiatus during the Covid pandemic.

The Hospitality Center is open Monday to Friday every week throughout the year. Volunteers usually work approximately 3 hours a week on one weekday.

  • Requires periods of standing and moving around to make coffee and serve refreshments to guests.
  • Hospitality volunteers, as the name implies, should be friendly hospitable people who love to meet and serve others.

Volunteering for the Income Tax Program

The Income Tax program is active from January to mid-April. Volunteers work a half-day on one or more days a week. Income tax volunteers have a variety of jobs, from calling shareholders to make appointments, meeting and greeting shareholders, and preparing tax returns. Volunteers who make appointments work from home and can make calls anytime throughout the day, including evenings.

  • Requires computer skills
  • Ability to complete IRS training and pass competency tests for volunteers who prepare tax returns. All training is provided free of charge.

Volunteering for the Mobility Aids Program

Mobility Aids volunteers help shareholders borrow free walkers and wheelchairs owned by the Golden Age Foundation. Volunteers with this program have several jobs. Call center volunteers work from home on their own schedule, answering phone messages and calling shareholders to advise them about how to borrow mobility aids. Volunteers also staff the office from 09:00 to 11:00 a.m. every weekday during which time shareholders come to borrow and return mobility aids. If you want a couple of hours to read or do something on a laptop, staffing the Mobility Aids office is a great option!

Most volunteers have a specific weekday commitment  of approximately 1-2 hours. Some volunteers go out to apartments to pick up mobility aids that are no longer needed; a current driver’s license and mobility are required for this specific job.

Volunteering for the Golden Age Foundation Board of Directors

We are always looking for dynamic people who like to work with others to plan and manage the Foundation’s many programs. The best way to start learning about this volunteer role is to attend one of our monthly Board meetings, held on the 4th Wednesday of each month on the second floor of the Administration Building. All current Golden Age members are invited to observe Board meetings as guests.
